Albert Einstein’s Longines wristwatch fetched over half a million dollars at an Antiquorum auction on Oct 16. The wristwatch sold for US$520,000 or US$596,000 including fees.
Manufactured in 1930 and presented to Einstein a year later, the tonneau watch is crafted from 14K gold and has a white dial marked with Arabic numerals. Inscribed with “Prof. Albert Einstein, Lost Angeles, Feb 1931”, the lucky buyer can literally wear a piece of history on their sleeve.
You may not be able to inherit Einstein’s genes, but you can inherit the Nobel Prize winning physicist’s watch. The selling price exceeded the estimate of US$35,000 by over 2000%. You don’t need to be Einstein to clock that's a record high for a Longines relic.
