There’s a whole range of Hollywood blockbusters due out this year, but take cue from us and mark your calendar for our picks for the 2008 blockbusters: Adventure seems to be the name of the game - 19 years since Harrison Ford last cracked his whip, he returns to the big screen this May with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The now 65-year-old actor returns to screen with Transformers’ Shia LeBouf and Cate Blanchett. Then, there’s the latest Batman film - after Heath Ledger’s tragic death, The Dark Knight is even more anticipated. With snippets shot in Hong Kong, Ledger plays Joker, a role made famous in the 80s by Jack Nicholson. There’s also the Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, set to be released in August, although without Rachel Weisz, Brendan Fraser returns to play a treasure hunter, with Jet Li joining the cast. Harry Potter returns to the screen with Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (wonder how much longer Daniel Radcliffe – whose aging on the big screen much faster than the perennially young Potter in the books – can keep this up?). The Wachowski Brothers, the brains behind The Matrix, brings out another visual-effect extravaganza with Speed Racer, based on the classic anime series, starring Emilie Hirsch, Christina Ricci, Matthew Fox and Susan Sarandon, already set to be released this May. Other comic book revivals include Iron Man (with Robert Downey Jr. playing Tony Stark) and The Incredible Hulk (with Edward Norton, not Eric Bana, playing Dr. Bruce Banner). As for the year’s lineup of powerhouse casts, our money’s on Burn After Reading – by the Coen brothers who had recently won three Oscars for “No Country for Old Men”. The flick stars Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Tilda Swinton, John Malkovich and Frances McDormand centers around the memoirs of a CIA agent that ends up in the hands of a gym trainer, with drastic steps taken to get it back. For the horror flick junkies, Saw V comes out towards the end of year, and for pure action, a highly anticipated Bond 22 (not its real name, as the movie title hasn’t officially been released yet) where Daniel Craig reprises his role as the pre-Connery, Brosnan and Moore 007, with the story picking up right after the Casino Royale takedown of Mr. White. You can also watch Angelina Jolie kick ass as an assassin alongside Atonement’s James McAvoy in Wanted. And for the die-hard fans, Sex and the City comes to the big screen soon, set four years after the series ended. Jennifer Hudson plays Carrie’s assistant.
